Compression boot connectors are one of the simplest pipe-to-manhole connectors found in the market. Press-Seal offers two different options – the Kwik Seal and Econoseal.
On today’s episode of Press-Seal-U, The Gasket University, territory manager Sean Fowler walks us through the differences in the two compression connectors and how each has advantages for precast plants and contractors.
Introduction of Kwik Seal and Econoseal Boot Connectors
The Kwik Seal is a simple product that easily installs on the job-site with a contractor or in the precast plant. It is installed in either a cored hole or cast hole and covers the following pipe ranges/types:
· PVC – 4” thru 24”
· RCP – 12” thru 24”
The Econoseal is another simple product that easily installs at the precast plant using a simple aluminum mandrel and torsion springs. After casting, the gasket is then flipped inward at the job site creating the compression portion of the seal around the pipe. The Econoseal covers the following pipe ranges/types:
· Ductile Iron – 4” thru 18”
· PVC – 4” thru 30”
Please note that the larger 18 – 30” sizes require a different mandrel setup than the smaller 4” – 15” PVC sizes.
How to Install Pipe into Either Compression Boot
Both the compression boot connectors have very similar installation processes for contractors out in the field. The simple process is:
1. Quality control first – inspect the gasket for any debris or deformities
a. On the Econoseal, ensure that the gasket has flipped inwards
2. Bevel the end of the pipe
3. Lubricate the barrel (spigot) end of the pipe and on ONLY the sealing surface of the gasket. (Never use lubricant on the surface of the Kwik Seal that contacts the structure)
4. Push the pipe home
Product Performance
Both connectors meet or exceed all requirements of ASTM C 923, including physical properties of materials and performance testing.
You can use these boot connectors in manholes, wet wells and stormwater structures.
